1. Purpose
This policy outlines clear attendance expectations ensuring learners meet Redlands and CPCAB’s mandatory live Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and required learning activities.
2. Scope
Applies to all CPCAB qualifications delivered by Redlands, including taught sessions, skills practice, group work, tutorials, assessments, placement hours and supervised activities.
3. Definitions
- Guided Learning Hours (GLH): Scheduled live/synchronous tutor-led hours.
- Internal Verification (IV): A quality‑assurance process carried out within Redlands
- External Verification (EV): A quality‑assurance process carried out by CPCAB’s appointed External Verifier
- Authorised absence: Approved absence meeting criteria.
- Unauthorised absence: Absence without acceptable reason.
- Exceptional circumstances: Significant events outside learner control.
- Reasonable adjustments: Adjustments to support learners with specific needs.
4. Attendance Requirement
Learners must achieve at least 90% attendance across all scheduled GLH. All elements of CPCAB qualifications are mandatory.
5. Recording and Monitoring
Attendance is recorded each session and retained for IV/EV.
6. Punctuality
Arriving more than 10 minutes late, or leaving more than 20 minutes early, will be recorded on the course register.
7. Absence
Learners must notify their tutor as early as possible
8. Exceptional Circumstances
Short-term concessions may be applied if learning outcomes and GLH can still be met.
9. Reasonable Adjustments
Adjustments may be agreed where appropriate without compromising GLH requirements for the qualification.
Learners are expected to inform Redlands of any learning needs or support requirements before the course begins (or as soon as they become aware of them). This ensures that appropriate adjustments can be discussed and put in place in a timely manner.
10. Late Admissions (Joining After the Start of the Course)
Where a learner is accepted onto a course after the official start date, attendance requirements will apply from the point at which the learner joins the course. Sessions delivered before the learner’s enrolment will not be counted towards their attendance percentage.
11. Catch-Up
Catch-up tasks may be set but do not replace GLH.
12. Attendance Review Thresholds
Below 95%: check in and reminder.
Below 90%: attendance tutorial.
Below 85%: formal review; continuation on the course not guaranteed.
13. Appeals
Learners may appeal via the appeals process. Refer to the Redlands Appeals Policy
