Professional Coaching Training
Redlands now offers online professional coaching training courses that integrate with the CPCAB counselling training structure.
Whether you're new to coaching or an experienced counsellor wanting to broaden your practice, our courses equip you with the skills, confidence, and credibility to expand your work and income potential. In addition, with a CPCAB qualification you stand out in the unregulated coaching market. As a result, you can differentiate yourself clearly in a growing professional field.
Coaching or Counselling: What’s the Difference?
To clarify in its most basic form:
- Counselling: Focuses on healing past experiences and supporting emotional wellbeing.
- Coaching: Focuses on identifying choices, clarifying and setting goals, and creating actionable steps for the future.
Specifically for the UK practitioner, it’s also important to note that there are significant differences in training requirements, regulations, and earning potential. Therefore, understanding these distinctions can help you make informed decisions about your professional path.
In summary, both disciplines offer powerful support but serve different aims and follow distinct qualification routes.

The Training Pathway
To become a coach you first need to complete some of the counselling training courses. This is because the listening skills and theory are so critical in forming and maintaining the client/coach relationship.
(If you have never done any counselling training, the best place to start is to sign up for either the Free Taster or the Effective Listening Skills short course.)
1.Entry Level: Introduction to Coaching Workshop
Our Introduction to Coaching Workshop (or Short Course) is the essential first step in your coaching journey. It takes 4 hours and is online, live with a tutor. It’s open to anyone who has started humanistic counselling training and who is currently at Level 2 (Skills) or Level 3 (Studies), as prior knowledge of skills and theory is required.
In this initial stage, the workshop takes you through:
- What coaching is and what it can offer
- Why people choose coaching
- The GROW coaching model - what it is and how it's used
- Practice using the GROW model
- Q&A on further training with Redlands
After this workshop you will be eligible to apply for the Level 4 and Level 5 CPCAB coaching qualifications, and be fully informed about what they entail.
Begin here — the starting point for all learners.

Please note: The Introductory Workshop is not compulsory, but we strongly recommend it. The cost can be offset against the cost of either Level 4 or Level 5.

Next, we offer two structured progression routes, depending on your prior experience. You may choose one of the following.Either:

What you can do at Level 4:
- Work independently as a coach
- Offer 1:1 sessions, in person or online
- Develop niche coaching services (e.g., wellbeing, career, lifestyle)
- Create a flexible, self-employed practice
Alternatively :
b) Level 5 Coaching for Counsellors Certificate
The Level 5 Coaching for Counsellors Certificate is an advanced path designed for qualified counsellors wanting to integrate coaching into their work.
Building further on your existing practice, this qualification supports you to:
- Support clients through goal-focused personal development

- Offer coaching alongside therapy
What you can do at Level 5:
- Add structured coaching into your counselling portfolio
- Work with clients seeking personal change or goal achievement

- Differentiate yourself in the coaching market with a recognised qualification
In conclusion, if you're starting out we recommend Level 2–Level 3 learners begin with the introductory workshop and Level 4.
