1. Purpose
This policy outlines the process for students to appeal an assessment decision they believe to be incorrect or unfair. It ensures transparency, fairness, and alignment with ethical and professional standards in counselling education.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All students enrolled in Redlands Counselling Training programmes
- All tutors and internal verifiers involved in assessment decisions
- All coursework, assignments, and activities subject to internal assessment.
3. Appeals Process
3.1 Stage 1: Informal Resolution
If you disagree with an assessment decision, speak with your tutor as soon as possible.
Explain your concerns clearly. Your tutor will provide a rationale and re-examine the evidence with you.
Most appeals are resolved at this stage.
3.2 Stage 2: Formal Appeal
If unresolved, the appeal proceeds to Stage 2 and is registered as a Student Appeal.
Submit a completed Student Appeal Form along with the relevant assignment/assessment and any supporting evidence.
This must be submitted within 2 working days of the Stage 1 discussion.
The Internal Verifier will review the appeal and respond within 5 working days.
3.3 Stage 3: Appeals Panel
If you remain dissatisfied, the appeal moves to Stage 3.
The Appeals Panel will include:
- You (the student)
- A friend/supporter (optional)
- The original tutor
- The Internal Verifier
- Two appointed panel members appointed by the Internal Verifier (one acting as Chair).
The panel will review all evidence and reach a decision within 10 working days.
All parties will be notified in writing.
The decision of the Appeals Panel is final.
4. Support & Queries
If you have questions about the appeals process, speak with your personal tutor or course coordinator.
They can guide you and provide the necessary forms.
5. Review & Updates
This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it remains aligned with current guidance from CPCAB and BACP and reflects best practice in assessment and student support.
