Coaching Qualification

This is a 90 hour Level 5 Certificate course aimed at qualified counsellors, who wish to start coaching clients. The course leads to a tailor-made CPCAB coaching qualification (subject to CPCAB approval).

Completion of the short Coaching for Counsellors course is an entry requirement for this Level 5 course.

The course is specifically designed to assist counsellors who currently work from a humanistic or integrative orientation and who wish to extend their practice, to include coaching by integrating skills and knowledge from a variety of sources without compromising their underpinning principles of practice. These principles include the importance of Roger's core conditions, being authentic in relationship and respecting the client's own resources and potential for change without the need for an 'expert' or external locus of evaluation.

The course will cover:

  • Ethical, legal and professional issues including assessment and contracting
  • Integrative theoretical perspectives
  • Difference and diversity issues
  • Creative skills and techniques
  • Research findings
  • Understanding mental wellbeing and human flourishing in the context of coaching
  • Reflective practice and self-care

It is aimed at practising counsellors who have achieved a minimum of the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or equivalent and who wish to extend their practice to coaching.

Students are assessed by portfolio and case review (3,000-3,500 words)

The tuition fee is £1,650 plus CPCAB Registration fee £180. If the tuition fee is paid by 8th September 2024 a discount of £150 will apply.

Completion of the Redlands CPD short course: Coaching for Counsellors course (or equivalent), is an entry requirement for this course. If you apply for this Level 5 course, please submit a booking form for the short course at the same time.

Regarding clients : A minimum of 20 supervised coaching hours will need to be completed.

Maria Scholes is a humanistic integrative counsellor, coach, and supervisor. She has been delivering psychoeducational and personal development training for 15 years and is also experienced in delivering CPCAB Level 2-6 counselling and coaching courses.

She has been working in private practice for 9 years and previously worked as therapist within the NHS, community counselling settings and the charities sector. Qualifying as a coach has seen Maria’s private practice grow as increasingly more clients seek a dual skill set.

Maria is passionate about coaching informed by positive psychology and has a special interest is resilience and positive ageing coaching. She is a registered member of the BACP and the Association for Coaching and the Positive Psychology Guild.

What do the initials CPCAB stand for?

CPCAB stands for the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body. This is the Body which awards the qualification to students who are assessed as proficient at the end of the course. CPCAB is the only national Awarding Body which specialises in counselling qualifications.

Am I required to be in coaching for this course?

Yes, you are required to have 4 coaching sessions whilst you are on the course.

What is the progression route?

Subject to tutor recommendation and CPCAB Guidelines, progression is to the CPCAB Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Supervision. Progression is also available to the OPEN UNIVERSITY (OU) Foundation Degree in Counselling.

Can I pay the course fees in instalments, or do you offer an early payment plan?

We do not offer a fees instalment plan; however we do have an early payment discount for this course, and the details and deadline for this are on the Fees and Costs section of the webpage.

Is there funding for the course, including the Advanced Learner Loan?

As Redlands is an independent training provider, our courses do not meet the criteria for the Advancer Learner Loan or other funding. For this reason, our learners are self-funded.
