Learn how to be an effective listener

We are delighted to offer this one-day learn to listen course, that can bring benefits to relationships with friends, at home and in the workplace. When you learn to listen you discover how much people are not saying, and really strengthen your communication skills. Guided by our qualified tutor, you will learn and practice listening skills, in a group setting. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments. A certificate of attendance will be emailed after the event.

By the end of the day you will:
  • Recognise the challenges of effective listening
  • Recognise the differences between empathy, sympathy and pity
  • Be able to demonstrate paraphrasing
  • Identify common blocks to listening
  • Be aware of your own blocks to listening
  • Understand the progression to Level 2 and beyond
Comments from past attendees   "Very well run and facilitated; really enjoyed the learning and group dynamic." "The whole session was very interesting and eye-opening" "I enjoyed listening to other human beings and their thoughts and opinions. Made me think!"

Kate Dalton is an Integrative Psychotherapist and Supervisor who has been working in the field for twenty years and is an accredited member of the BACP. She has experience in working with children and young people as well as with adults, in school settings, agencies and within her own private practice.

The content of this course mirrors the start of CPCAB counselling training and will give you a good idea of how training as a counsellor might feel. The next stage would be progression to our Level 2 Certificate in Counselling skills, which is a 4 month part-time course.

If you’re not sure that you’re ready to sign up for a day course, then why not try out our free online taster? This is also delivered by a qualified tutor from Redlands and last 2.5 hours.
